Tomorrow is our last social studies methods class, and I don't want this class to end. This has been my favorite methods class which is surprising considering my major is interdisciplinary science. This class made me more confident in teaching direct, inquiry, and cooperative lessons. This class gave me many technological resources such as Jamboard, flip-grid, Quizzes, Kahoot, Pear deck, and more, which I can use in a virtual and in-person classroom setting. This class taught me why it is essential to plan a lesson to prepare me for the social studies edTPA. This class also taught me why it is crucial to teach various versions of geography, economics, history, civics, and government to help our students become good citizens of the United States. Finally, it taught me how to give purposeful and practical feedback to both the students I am teaching and fellow teacher candidates. The ways I learned to provide feedback will help me in my future career as a teacher when teaching my students and talking to co-workers. I grew professionally because I realized I am in charge of how well my students learn. The way I teach will determine if my students succeed or if they don't. The way I teach will also determine how students feel about particular subjects. I will influence a child on whether they like or dislike social studies, and it is also my job to make sure students learn the material I am teaching them to the best of my abilities. Dr. Smirnova is one of my favorite professors at Mount Saint Mary College and is always coming up with different technologies to give her students that they can put in their teacher tool kit to use in the future. She is passionate about having her students succeed in any way, shape, or form. Before taking her class, I'll be honest social studies was not my favorite class; I always preferred science or math over social studies. But now, Social Studies might be one of my favorite subjects to teach, and I am so grateful I got to take her Social Studies Methods class. It was a experience I will never forget.
