My Experience with Social Studies and how to be a good Social Studies teacher

My social studies experience is a love to hate you, hate to love you kind of relationship. In school, social studies was one of my best subjects, but I also found it boring. It wasn't enjoyable; it wasn't challenging; it was too easy. To me, it was a class where I was guaranteed to get an 80 or higher. But now I realized that social studies shouldn't be boring and can be extremely fun to teach. And that there are a variety of ways someone can be an excellent social studies teacher. The first is that you have to be passionate about what you teach and excited to teach it. If you are not excited, neither will the kids you are teaching. You also have to have good pedagogical skills for the lessons you teach to be successful. The article "Pedagogy for senior social studies" explains that good pedagogical skills include "changing the way you set up your classroom weekly, setting high goals you want your students to reach, using different tones of voice when the situation requires it, rewarding students for what you think they did well. Examples may include a prize bin or five points on a quiz or test and repetition."These are some of the things that make an excellent social studies teacher, and I hope to use these techniques in my classroom.
